pdf content in other programs not working?

$

I've tried searching, but was not able to find much, so apologies if this has been discussed already.

Created an interactive pdf out of Indesign. Then, in Acrobat, added some web links around words, some around art. The links around text are underlined. Imported art (.pngs) that could be clicked (mouse over, up, down). Some basic stuff, nothing really fancy.

In acrobat and reader, it's all peachy. Everything looks and prints nice, and all links work. In Mozilla, the underlined words now have rectangles, and the imported art has no link, no mouse up/down look. In Foxit, the text links are fine, but the imported art looks washed out. In Internet Explorer, everything looks and works exactly as it should. Is there a check box I'm missing to make pdfs work universally in products, or should I put a notice that it is best viewed in Reader or IE? I know that not all programs are the same, and some people have their preferences set differently that what I may have.

Thank you.

Wonky Page Margins - Need Help!

$

When I create PDF documents from Microsoft programs, the top and bottom page margins display correctly, but print too high or low depending on the page content. Below is a typical example.

PageDisplay.jpg

This is how the page displays on the screen. Everything looks great. But then when you print it...

PagePrint.jpg

See how the bottom margin's footer shifted halfway up the page? This happens in both Word and Excel. Also, sometimes the top margin will shift down, leaving a couple of inches of blank space that shouldn't be there. I have found no setting that addresses this problem. I'm hoping someone knows of a fix.

Thanks!

I recently downloaded Acrobat Pro XI for a colleague, and he has some troubles with watermarks. A file created with a logo, statement and line that crosses the page can be applied to a PDF via my computer fine, but when my colleague does the same actions, the line is not visible.

Our actions are the same, and we are using the same file. Defaults also appear to be the same. Another staff member has also tried, and successfully added the watermark.

Second try on questioning: I inserted a text box in my PDF document but it doesn't "grow" as I type a paragraph. I can't figure out how to set it for larger amounts of text.

How to fax from Acrobat pro XI

$

I'm in a business that requires me to fax files off to companies (Yes, some companies still require faxes, not emails.) My boss had Acrobat X on his computer and he's able to fax the files off but I have XI on my mac and I can't. I have to go through a different program (Nuance) instead. The way we fax is wirelessly to a printer/fax/scanner. Now, before you go, oh, just going into print then into the printer settings and select Fax pdf from there, I have tried that but it tells me that there is no fax connected to the machine. With Nuance, and with the PC on acrobat X, we just go through print, there's a drop down menu on that screen that prompts for send fax and it's all simple.

Is there a way to easily send a fax through Acrobat XI? If there isn't, why the hell did adobe get rid of the function when most companies still require faxes?

Unwanted "Glow"-effect in PDF?

$

Hi, here’s a real issue for the experts:

A customer of mine needs to save images as photoshop-pdf format to fit in his workflow, and there is no alternative to that.

If an image has transparent areas and is placed in InDesign and than exported again as a pdf, you can find at the transition between pixels and transparency a „glow“ effect (as if someone had used the Layer Style „Outer Glow“). It is shown in Acrobat and also printed.

What does NOT affect this issue:

  • any changes of settings when you save the image as a pdf, even the „Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities“ setting;
  • any changes of settings when you export the pdf out of InDesign no matter if the transparency is flattened or not;
  • the versions of Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat (CS5, CS6 or CC, no matter);
  • the platform (PC or Mac) and the OS-version.

What DOES affect this issue:

  • the total amount of pixels! There is a definite threshold value: 5,244,000 pixels. Yes, it’s that strange: if you are above this number of pixels, the result is the glow effect. If your below this number of pixels, the glow effect ist gone.

Here is an example how this effects an image placed on a dark background in InDesign:

http://www.wolfgang-meininger.de/testking/Haare_frei_auf_dunkel.pdf

This PDF has two pages, and the difference between the two is the amount of pixels of the placed image...

Any ideas for a solution?

Thanks for all who deal with this issue!

Wolfgang

I have added dynamic link to my contents page and would like to add a 'page turning' effect at the foot of each page - a sort of animated book. Can I achieve this using Acrobat Professional?

slide size change when clicking on pdf links (Acrobat 9 pro)

Hello,

I have a problem with an interface mock up I have to deliver to a client.

The size of image is changing from a slide to another.

For example, when I click on a home button (this button is a link made in acrobat pro, that send to another page of the pdf document), the slide size changes from full screen to a smaller size with a black border around.

SOrry it's hard to explain, so I put 2 screenshots and hope it will be clear enough >

problem fullscreen.jpg

This happen only if I use clicks on the links.

If I just use the next / previous command (for example if I use keyboard's arrows), the size remain full screen and unchanged for the whole slides.

Can you tell me how to fix this problem?

Best regards,

Mega

Color Handling when saving Word document as PDF, containing CMYK TIFF image?

$

What is the proper procedure for creating PDFs from Word documents that contain a CMYK TIFF image? I have created a company logo by exporting an AI file with Pantone colors as a TIFF (with a CMYK color profile, since there is the intention of printing). Since it is a logo, color consistency is important and the utmost priority. I will be needing to insert this file into a Word document that will then be converted into a PDF.

I've read somewhere that Word automatically converts images to RGB, and also have come across potential problems of colors being changed in the final PDF through unmanaged color handling and conversions. I figured instead of running around in circles trying to find the best solution, I'd post on here. Is this procedure possible? What is the best way to do this without changing my original color profile or CMYK values of the logo being used?

This PDF has the intention of being placed online for offices to print/publish.

Thanks!
