Automatically populate form fields from another form

$

Hi folks -

First time user of Acrobat DC and wonder if / how I can do the following?

A client comes to us for a medical. They may have to complete more than one form depending on what the medical is. If the client completes one form, is there a way that when the second form is opened, their basic details (name, address, DOB, etc) can automatically populate the same fields on the second form so the client doesn't have to type the details in twice?

Is this possible? Or instead would I have to create both forms as one form, and hide the second part of the form if not needed?

Macintosh and PDF Portfolios

We have one user who is on a MAC. He is running Outlook (exchange) version 14.6.7. He needs to be able to create PDF portfolios from his email. Is that possible using Acrobat? Also, we are licensed for Acrobat XI for windows. Will our serial number work for the Macintosh or do we need to buy a whole new license?

Is Acrobat XI compatible with his version of Outlook? He is running the most recent MACOS.

I can see highlights in every colour but yellow, green, and blue.

If if I try to highlight text with any of the following colours no colour is displayed: yellow, light yellow, green, light green, blue, and light blue.

2.png

If I right-click the highlighted text and format the highlighting to another colour (e.g., a darker yellow), I will see the colour.

If I switch back to one of the 6 colours or any variation (by clicking "other colour" and adjusting the luminescence in the colour wheel to anything near a yellow or light yellow for example (<= 105 luminence)) the colour will disappear and I will only see the dotted outline of the highlighting when it is selected.

This makes the compare documents feature useless as I get a document marked up with "no colour" highlights.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could resolve this?

What is happening to the images?

Created a pdf document and inserted 300 dpi tiff images, then saved as a pdf. Looked great. When it was uploaded to Amazon's 'Search Inside This Book' feature, the images were blotchy with no smooth gradation in the grayscale. What's happening. From image 1 to image 2.

Why are PDFs created in Acrobat X Pro suddenly becoming corrupt?

I have a group of users who generate PDFs in a variety of ways and they move pages around from one to another to create specific reports. I have a particular file, let's call it Report A - created on 7-13-16 with Acrobat X Pro. It is a combination of JD Edwards created PDF, with pages from a few different files added into it. As PDF NOT Portfolio. The day it was last modified - 7-13-16 - all pages were visible and printable, no problem.

As of today , 9-12-16 when I try to open Report A, my X Pro shows me 6 blanks pages zoomed in to 4811%. When I try to put it to 100% - it gets minuscule on the screen. When I try to save as a Word document, I get the error "Save As failed to process this document. No file was created."  Sometimes trying to open it other users have been prompted with "This file is corrupt". But wait, there's more.

My users can convert Report A to Word using a 3rd part tool called Smart PDF Converter. That tool tells them there is a problem with the file, but it is still able to convert a readable set of the same 6 pages.

What is going on in the 60 days since this file was created? It's not the only one, I've been sent a list of them. Has anyone encountered this?

TIA,

-Monica

When saving a Word document as a PDF, how can I make it NOT embed the fonts (basically save as image only)?

When I "print" a Word document as a PDF the fonts are embedded.  I'm assuming by doing this then it is possible to make the file editable.  If I take a picture of my document and save it as a PDF then, obviously, the fonts are not embedded.  I want to have a PDF like the second one, but as the document is several hundred pages long I don't really want to take a picture of each page.  Is there another way take the saved PDF and take out the font embedding?

Thanks!

Problem with Acrobat Pro XI and Win 10

I've been successfully using Acrobat Pro XI with MS Word 2003 under Windows 10 for several months.  This combination just stopped working -- When I try to convert .doc file to pdf inside Word, the process starts but hangs up.  When I open Acrobat Pro XI and try convert a file,  Acrobat tries to open "the application that created the file" but is unable to successfully complete this operation.  I reinstalled Acrobat with no change so I suspect this issue may  be the result of a recent Windows update.   Has anyone else seen this problem or have any suggestions?

Acrobat, set default Page Transitions > Auto Flip to 0

I'm exporting an interactive PDF from inDesign to PDF. My reader is Acrobat Pro DC. In the reader, the Page Transitioning > Auto Flip setting is set at 5 seconds by default. Is there anyway to have that Auto Flip box unchecked and seconds set to 0 by default?

I know that I can do this manually, each time I export. But why? Who wants to open a PDF, of any sort, and have it start automatically flipping the pages every 5 seconds?  Seems like the default should be 0.

Thanks!

Can I do this with Acrobat and Reader?

I have an Acrobat DC license, which I want to use to create fillable PDF forms for my company. Let's call them Form A and B

I then want to use the forms like this:

  1. each member of staff is given a laptop with Reader installed and a set of the forms I created with Acrobat. They will use the forms in offline locations without internet access
  2. a staff member completes Form A in Reader. One question on Form A is "do you need to fill in Form B?"
  3. If they do need to fill in Form B, either (a) Form B, previously hidden within Form A, appears within Form A (someone on here said you can use templates to create Form B within Form A - see footnote *), (b) it automatically opens Form B and prepopulates some fields in B from fields in A (e.g. name, DOB, etc) or (c) Form A creates a data file which Form B opens and that automatically prepopulates some fields in B from fields in A (e.g. name, DOB, etc).

So basically, I need a system that will allow me to create forms in Acrobat and allow staff using the forms in Reader to pull some basic data from one form to another (or just pass it to other fields within the same form is Form B can be hidden within Form A).

The ability to have fields prepopulated from other fields is vital and I'm getting mixed messages about whether this is feasible or not using Reader, so just looking for advice on whether I can do this or need to look for another solution.

Many thanks!

* "Instead of opening a second file, have you looked into the possibility of using templates in the first file to add the pages for the additional forms as needed. These forms could be updated with the data from the first page and all the forms would be in one file for the visit. This approach will not work on mobile devices but can be used with the Acrobat Reader XI and DC and the PDFs would be completely self contained."

Embedded attachments

Many PDFs we use have embedded/attached files. When viewing these I always forget to check if the PDF actually has attachments embedded.  Is there a way, when opening a PDF to immediately see or be notified that there are embedded attachments without having to Open Tools Attachments ?

Unwanted Lines after Optimize to Deskew

$

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. I have a number of image files that were converted to PDF by a client who inherited them from a gentleman who is no longer with the company. These were large documents that were scanned in slices, then compiled into a single image before being converted to PDF. The PDF's are slightly skewed and no border lines show up between the image slices. If the Adobe Acrobat Edit Text & Images is chosen, each slice of the image can be selected.

The problem I'm having is with the Optimize Scanned PDF command in the Document Processing menu. If I use this feature, the resulting image shows the border between each slice of the image, which is unacceptable. I suspect the image may have been purposely skewed so these faint black hairlines don't show up on the screen. Note that these unwanted lines don't appear when printed to an 8.5X11 sheet of paper on a printer.

Is there any means to deskew an image made of multiple slices and NOT get the unwanted border lines around each slice on the screen view in the process?

Change page size to a smaller format

Hi

We have some problems resizing a PDF document to a smaller page size (f.e. A4).

It seems Adobe Acrobat Pro DC creates a PDF document with a page size that is larger in width than an A4 document.

We already tried the following things:

  • We printed the PDF file to an A4 document with the Adobe PDF printer, but this causes all our form elements to disappear. 90% of all form elements are also not accessible anymore in the printed PDF.
  • We tried to set the page size using different options like f.e. "organize pages" => "set page boxes" => "Change Page Size". However, when we try to set the page size to the exact dimensions of an A4 document, we get the well known error "Page Size may not be reduced".

Finally we used a trial version of the MapSoft plugin to changed the page size to that of an A4 document.

This works, but in our opinion this should be possible in Adobe without using external plugins. Could it be that we missed some kind of option in Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro DC?

Thanks.

P.S.: If the document doesn't have the exact A4 page size, some of the text doesn't fit in predefined boxes on our template paper. Also, the printed document doesn't look the same on different printers if the A4 page size is not used.
